Wei & Her Viola

My name is Wei. I play the viola.

Music has always been the backdrop of my student and professional life. I grew up playing the violin, which I didn't really enjoy. Once I went to college (gained the freedom not to practice and played in a bad school orchestra), I happily dropped the violin and started a full round of exploration of many other musical instruments. Eventually, I came back to classical music during covid, when I found out about the amazing viola and have sticked to it ever since.

In my other life as a working professional, I'm primarily a front end software engineer. If an engineering team is an orchestra, then "front end" are most likely the violins (meh)--responsible for most of the visible parts of the system. Unlike the violin, this role, however, I'm proudly very good at. Better, it's close enough to my dream profession--to build useless artsy websites like this one.
